About us

Learn more about how our initiative came into existence

Background

The founding members of our initiative are: BASF, Bayer, BMW, Daimler, Deutsche Bahn, Deutsche Investitions- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft, Dr. Arend Oetker, econsense, Fuchs Petrolub, KPMG, Siemens, Systain Consulting, Thyssenkrupp, Trumpf and the Wittenberg Center for Global Ethics.

econchain was therefore developed by companies for companies. With their tradition of combining high performance with social responsibility, German companies all over the world are striving to implement business practices that are both successful and sustainable. In the context of global value chains, this aim can only be achieved through cooperation with local partners who share a commitment to sustainable business practices. Together with local partners, German businesses are therefore committing their experience and expertise to promote capacity building for sustainable business practices. The cross-industry approach opens up opportunities to share existing knowledge (as well as knowledge gained from other industry initiatives), identify areas where action is needed and derive measures to address issues at numerous value-added levels. The pilot phase has been successfully implemented in Mexico and China. Now the training is offered to all interested companies.

About our initiative

econchain is an initiative by …

econsense:

econsense is a network of internationally operating companies with a common goal: They want to actively shape the change to a more sustainable economy and society. We support our members in anchoring sustainability in operational practice, in strategy or along the supply chain. We track and analyze all relevant issues: from environmental protection to human rights – always with a focus on the business case for sustainability. In exchange with business, politics and civil society, we proactively address sustainability challenges and advocate frameworks and policies that enable business’ innovation and competitiveness. This makes econsense a valued thought leader, advisor and partner in matters of sustainability.
